    Uttaranchal Tourism

    In Uttarakhand or Uttaranchal tourism is the most significant segment of the state's economy. 60% of the state is associated with at least some part of the Uttaranchal tourism industry. Lakhs of tourist visit Uttaranchal every year to enjoy the celestial beauty of the land.

    Uttarakhand was renamed to Uttaranchal and then again renamed to Uttarakhand in 2006. This hilly state has two regions Garhwal, in the West and Kumaon, in the east. Both the regions are surrounded with high snow covered peaks, beautiful valleys, huge flat grasslands or alpine meadows, scenic surroundings, mighty holy rivers and a large variety of rich and exotic flora and fauna.

    The char - Dhams - Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath is well known with around lakhs of pilgrims visiting the holy sites every year. Haridwar one of the seven scared cities in India lies in the foothills of Shivalik ranges. Hemkund Sahib, Lokpal, Nanakmatta, Meetha Reetha Sahib and Piran kaliyar very sacred and holy place visited by lakhs of pilgrims from all over the world.

    Uttaranchal has a rich and exotic flora and fauna and is an idle location for eco and wildlife tourism. The lush green forests here are abundant with pine, oak, rhododendron, juniper and birch trees.

    Uttaranchal is also rich in wildlife tourism and Tigers, Leopards, Elephants , Himalayan bear, wolves, snow leopards and varieties of deer such as barking deer and the musk deer can be seen in the wild life sanctuary national parks here.

    They are Corbett national park, Rajaji national park, Govind wild life sanctuary, Binsar wild life sanctuary, Nanda Devi wild life sanctuary, Kedarnath wild life sanctuary, Assan barrage and Chilla. Uttaranchal is also well known for the avifauna, with over 400 species of birds found here.

    Dehradun Railway station and Jolly Grant airport , Haldwani and Kathgodam have good road, train and air connectivity from New Delhi.
