Champawat city is the headquarters of Champawat district. The city was also the ancient capital of the Chand rulers of Garhwal.

Baleshwar Temple holds a lot of religious and spiritual significance in the Hindu religion.
The Baleshwar temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and also has idols of Goddess Bhagwati Devi, Goddess Champawati, Goddess Kali and Lord Ganesha. This ancient temple was built in the year 1272 by the rulers of the Chand Dynasty and is famous for its architectural and structural features.
The other important temple here in Champawat are the Kranteshwar Mahadev and the Nagnath Temple which is also famous for its ancient architecture, and the Gatodkach temple dedicated to the son of Lord Bheema from Mahabharata.
Ek Hatya ka Naula It is a magnificent carving done on the stone. It was built during the era of the Chand dynasty. This uniquely carved stone structure was built by an one hand artisian Jaganath Mistry with the help of his daughter Kasturi. This was the same artisian who had built the Baleshwar Temple. On completion of the temple the king got the artisian right hand cut off so he could not replicate any other such structures . The artistian then built this architectural marvel with one hand and in one night and humbled the then mighty Chand King.
Vanasura ka Kila ( 7 kms ) This is an ancient fort and is said to be associated with legendary capital of Demon Vanasur, who was defeated by Lord Krishna, in a face to face battle. One has to trek 2kms to reach the fort.
Mount Abbot ( 8 kms ) Mount Abbot is situated at an elevation of 2018 ft. The beautiful site offers a quite and peaceful holiday. It also offers breathtaking view of the Himalalyas snow covered peaks.

Lohaghat ( 14 kms from Champawat ) This beautiful hill town is well known for its natural beauty. The town is situated on the banks of the river Lohawati and the area is also famous for the blooming 'Burans' flowers during summer.
Mayawati Advaita Ashram ( 9 kms ) This beautiful hill ashram is surrounded by majestic himalayan peaks and scenic surroundings. It is visited by tourists and spiritualists from all over the world all year round.
Devidhura ( 14 kms ) This beautiful hill town is well known for its natural beauty. The town is famous for the Varashi Temple and the area is also famous its Bagwal fair. Tourist and devotees come from far and wide to enjoy the rock throwing festival associated with the fair. Trekking facilites for the tourists are also provided here.
Pancheshwar ( 40 kms ) It is located near the Nepal border on the confluence of river Kali and river Saryu. It has a famous temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It also offers a with beautiful view of the himalayas peaks and is also a trekking paradise.
Meeta Reeta Sahib ( 72 kms ) It is an important Sikh yatra centre. The gurudwara stand at the confluence of Lodhiya and Rathiya rivers.
Purnagiri Temple ( 92 kms ) This holy temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali. It is one of the 108 shaktipeeth temples in India. Devotees from all over the country visit the holy temple during the Navratri season in the month of March. The temple aslo offers a beautiful view of the nearby surroundings including Nepal.
Shyamlatal ( 56 kms ) This beautiful lake is home to Swami Vivekananda Ashram. The blue water of the lakes sprawl over an area of 1.5sq km.
Nau Dhunga Ku Ghar ( 2 kms ) This means a house made of nine boulders. The house when seen from any direction only nine stones can be seen.
