The district of Pithoragarh is situated in Uttarakhand India. Pithoragarh also known as Mini Kashmir was carved out of Almora District on 24 February 1960.

Pithoragarh city is the third largest city of Uttarakhand and headquarters of Pithoragarh district. It is situated at an altitude of 1650 mts above sea - level and is located in the Soar Valley.

There are many well known temples in and around Pithoragarh. Kapileshwar Mahadev Temple and Dhwaj Shikhar Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva are one of the well known temples here.

This mountain town covered with dense woody forests and challenging undulate terrains is a good location for adventurous sports like skiing, paragliding and trekking in the Milam glacier, Ralam glacier, Namik glacier and Sunder Dhunga glaciers.
