Chopta Uttarakhand

Chopta is a beautiful town in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand state of India. It is also popularly known as "Mini Switzerland".

This small town is located at an altitude of 2600 mts above sea level admits dense forest. It offers an enchanting view of the Garhwal Himalayas.

The region is also rich in varied flora and fauna. Chopta is also the starting point of the trek to the highly revered Tungnath Temple.

    Chopta or the Mini Switzerland of India is surrounded by rhododendron and oak forests and provides and awe inspiring view of the lower Garhwal Himalayas. It is blessed with natural beauty. The whole area of comes in the Kedarnath Musk Deer Sanctuary.

    Chopta is surrounded by lush green forests of deodars, pines, long oak and rhododendrons trees and fantastic views of the snow clad Garhwal Himalayan peaks and streams and waterfalls.

    Chopta is also well known for miles and miles of flat grasslands or meadows called bugyals. It is visited by thousands of tourists and nature lovers from all over the world and keeps the tourists longing for more.

    Tungnath Temple

    Tungnath is the highest of the Panch Kedars, situated at an altitude of 12,000 ft. It is an easy 3.5 km trek from Chopta.

    The Chopta to Tungath trek can be done both in winters as well as in summers. The stunning beauty of the place along with the fantastic view of the Garhwal Himalayas is a trekkers delight and attracts a large number of trekkers here.

    The Chandrashila peak (meaning Moon Rock) is another 1.5 km climb from the Tungnath temple.

    The Chandrasila gives you a stunning 360 - degree view of the Chaukhamba, Kedarnath and Trishul peaks. The view from here is just awesome.

    Deoria Tal

    Deoria Tal

    It is a legendary belief that Deoria tal is the same lake of Mahabharata epic where a Yakshya asked the Pandavas questions on dharma.

    Trek to Deoria Tal begins from Chopta via Mastura - Saari village and finally around a 2 km trek to the lake. Ukhimath to Mastura is 8.5km and Mastura to Saari is around 3.5 km. The trek to Deoria tal is from easy to moderate.

    The Chopta To Deoria Tal Trek cannot be done in winters from - November - March - due to very heavy snowfall.

    Chopta is a heaven for bird watchers. More than 200 varieties of important bird species can be found in Chopta. Some of them are the Himalayan Monal, Pink-browed Rosefinch, Red-headed Bullfinch, Alpine Accentor, Alpine Chough, Himalayan Vulture, Bearded Vulture.

    Chopta is one of the best places in Uttarakhand to enjoy a night camp under the sky. Chopta has numerous meadows or bugyals and many scenic camping spots where one can camp.
