Har ki Pauri is considered as one of the most scared ghats in Haridwar district of Uttarakhand. This scared ghat was built by King Vikramaditya in memory of his brother Bhatrihari.
Bhatrihari is said to have meditated on the banks of the river Ganga in Haridwar.
King Shveta had performed severe penance here and received blessings from Lord Brahma that he would reside there along with Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu and those who bathed here would be blessed by the holy trinity. Thus the place also got its name as Brahmakund.
In Har ki Pauri or Brahmakund it is believed that when Lord Indra's son Jayant was carring the pitcher filled with nectar some drops of nectar spilled here in Har ki Pauri thus sanctifying the place forever.
Har ki Pauri and is thus considered to be the most sacred ghats of Haridwar, so during the Kumbha Mela held every 12 years and the Ardh Kumba held every 6 years.
Millions of yatris, devotees and tourists come here to perform ritualistic bathing on the banks of the river Ganges.
They all offers their prayers to the goddess Ganga to wash away their sins, pray for their ancestors salvation and pray to attain Moksha.
Har ki Pauri Uttarakhand is a part of Garhwal tourism , and the local languages spoken are Hindi and Garhwali. The best time to visit Har ki Pauri would be from Feb - June and September - November.
