The Jageshwar Temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlinghas of India. The mandir complex consist of 124 small temples and hundreds of statues dated back to the 5th and the 18th century. It is also known as 'Lord Shiva's winter home'. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is well known for the Syayambhu Linga named Nagesh Darukabane.
The temple is surrounded by thick deodar forests. The temple provides a beautiful view of the snow capped mountains to the pilgrims and the tourists. It is also well known for the Shivratri Mela and the Shravan mela held during mid - july to mid - august.
The Mahamritunjaya Temple is the main shrines and also the oldest in the complex. The main puja is carried over here. The other temples in the shrines are dedicated to Goddess Parvati, Goddess Durga, Goddess Kali, the sun god as so on.
Further ahead lies the Kuber temples. The temples here are dedicated to Lord Shiva , Lord Kubera and Goddess Durga. About 200 metres ahead is the Brahmakund. The pilgrims and tourist take a bath in the holy waters here as a ritual whenever they visit the temple.
Vridha Jageshwar 3 kms from Jageshwar is the temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is believed that Lord Shiva made a halt here when he arrived at Jageshwar. The climb to the temple is steep yet worthwhile as the temple offers a fantastic view of the snow covered Himalayas and the scenic neighboring surroundings.
The Archaelogy Museum located next to the KMVN tourist house is now home to some of the exquisite idol removed from the jageshwar temples. They mostly belong to the 10th, 11th and the 12th century.
It is one of the must see places of Jageshwar Dham.
