Haridwar is well connected by trains from all major cities in India such as Delhi, Mumbai etc.
There are lots of buses available for Haridwar from ISBT, Kashmere Gate in New Delhi. They include AC,Deluxe, Volvo, and ordinary Uttarakhand State buses. These buses depart every half hour 24X7.
The total journey can take anywhere between 6 to 7 hours from Delhi to Rishikesh and another 7 to 8 hrs to GovindGhat.
The pilgrims have to take a very long and tiresome trek of about 19 Kms from Govind Ghat - 13kms to Ghangaria - 6 kms steep and tough terrain trek to Hemkund. The last 3 kms of the trek are very tiring and tough.
The uttarakhand state transport ordinary buses are cheap and economical mode of transport if on budget and can charge anywhere between 200 - 250 from Delhi to Rishikesh and the same from Rishikesh to Govindghat.
Private taxi or cab fare is anywhere between 4000 - 5000 for a one way journey from Delhi to Rishikesh.
The climate is cold and inconsistent and it may rain sometimes. The best time to visit this place is from July to September, as the flowers are in full bloom and the weather is not so cold.
One should take care and proper precautions and not forget to carry woollens, nuts, glucose, chocolates, medicines and a raincoat. Good, strong and comfortable trekking shoes are a must.
