Karnaprayag is a beautiful city named after the legendary Karna from the Mahabharata epic. It is situated at an altitude of 820 mts above sea level in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, India.
Karnaprayag is situated in the confluence of the Alaknanda and Pindari rivers. Legends believe that it is here where Karna performed his daily puja to his father the Sun God.
Karna was well known for his generosity. The King of gods Lord Indra asked Karna for his powerful earings and invincible armour in order to save his son Arjuna.
Inspite of knowing about Lord Indra's intention, Karna gave away the earrings and armour. Pleased with Karna, Lord Indra gave the Brahmaastra to Karna.
Karnaprayag is a nature's paradise and it attracts pilgrims from all over the world. It is surrounded with high mountain peaks of Dunagiri, Nanda Devi and Trishul beautiful valleys and scenic surroundings.
Uma Devi Temple ( 2 kms ) The temple is dedicated to Goddess Parvati. Large number of devotees visit the shrine during the Shivratri festivals.
Chandika Mai Temple ( 6 kms ) The temple is dedicated to Goddess Chandika ( Kali ) and Rajrajeshwari. Large number of devotees visit the shrine during the Shivratri festivals.
Karnaprayag Uttarakhand is a part of Garhwal tourism, and the local languages spoken are Gadhwali and Hindi. The best time to visit Karnaprayag would be from March - June and September - October.
